Approximately two months ago, I decided to have my hearing professionally tested due to my family and friends noticing and commenting on me strongly favoring my left ear. They would jokingly say things like “you have to approach Blane like a horse, on his left side”. Because my hearing had gradually faded over years, I had adapted and did not realize the hearing loss as much as others had.
On my first visit, Dr. Allred took his time and in a very calm, caring manner thoroughly tested both ears using numerous pieces of equipment. I was really impressed that he obviously and truly wanted to get the most accurate data possible and you would have thought you were his only patient of the day the way he took his time to explain everything in detail and answer any questions and concerns you had.
I purchased a set of hearing aids that day and Dr Allred programmed them to produce a result to my middle and inner ears that best represented normal hearing. The problem was, I didn’t know what “normal” sounded like and desired the hearing aids to be programmed somewhat louder than what “normal” might represent.
Again, I was amazed that this doctor not only wanted me to have a hearing experience that was as close to normal hearing as possible but he also cared that the product met “my” expectations and desires as well. Dr Allred was probably overly patient with me over the course of a few additional visits as I was a bit persistent that I wanted the hearing aids a bit different than the programming equipment said represented “normal”. What I have today is the perfect balance between “diagnostic normal” and “my normal”. I am betting that many people purchase hearing aids and then accept less than what is considered optimum hearing to them believing that is the best the hearing aids are capable of. I would highly recommend that more people locate an audiologist with the patient, truly caring nature and skills that Dr. Allred possesses when addressing hearing deficiencies. It can change your life!
