What is Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss is partial to total inability to hear and differentiate sounds in one or both ears. The following are two main categories for hearing loss:

  • Conductive Hearing Loss: this hearing loss occurs in the outer or middle ear, and can be caused by ear wax buildup, a hole in the ear drum, and other issues. This type of hearing loss prevents sounds from reaching your inner ear.
  • Sensorineural Hearing Loss: this hearing loss occurs in the inner ear, and can be caused by exposure to loud noises, the natural aging process, and other issues. This type of hearing loss prevents sounds from being converted into electrical signals that the brain can process and interpret.
